Chiangman temple วัดเชียงมั่น
Built during 1296-1297 A.D. by phya mungrai, wat Chiangmun was the first royal temple built in the vicinity to Chiangmai’s ancient city, on the former wiang chiang mun palace donated by phya Mungrai. The temple instores several valuable historical artifacts, the most significiant are the white quartz Buddha image of ‘phra setangkamanee’ or phra kaew khao’ in Lanna style which phya Mungrai brought from Hariphunchai and also a stone Buddha statue in the posture of sub-duing the elephant ‘nalakiri’,carved by craftsmen of the pala school. Another priceless artifact is a stone inscription written in 1581 A.D. which recoreds the histories of wat Chiangmun and the city of Chiangmai. The 700 years old Chedi ‘chang lom’ or elephant-surrunnd stupa is the oldest and most significant stupa within the temple compounds.
เป็นพระอารามแห่งแรกที่พญามังรายทรงสร้างขึ้นภายในกำแพงเมืองเชียงใหม่ ประมาณ พ.ศ. ๑๘๓๙-๑๘๔๐ โดยพระราชทานที่ดินบริเวณพระตำหนังเวียงเชียงมั่นเป็นที่สร้าง ภายในวัดเก็บรักษาโบราณวัตถุ ที่สำคัญคือ “พระเสตังคมณี หรือพระแก้วขาว” สลักจากหินควอตซ์ สีขาวขุ่น(หินเขี้ยวหนุมาน) ศิลปะล้านนา พญามังรายทรงอัญเชิญมาจากเมืองหริภุญชัย พระพุทธรูปศิลาสลักปางทรมานช้างนาฬาคีรี ฝีมือสกุลช่างปาละ(พุทธศตวรรษที่ สิบสามถึงสิบสี่) และศิลาจารึกกล่าวถึงประวัติของวัดและเมืองเชียงใหม่ จารึกเมื่อง พ.ศ. ๒๑๒๔ โบราณสถานที่สำคัญคือ พระเจดีย์ช้างล้อมอายุเกือบ ๗๐๐ ปี
บริเวณ วัดนี้เดิมเป็นพระราชวังหรือคุ้มหลวงที่ประทับของพญามังรายมหาราช ปฐมกษัตรยิ์แห่งล้านนาไทย ก่อนที่พระองค์จะทรงสร้างนครเชียงใหม่ โดยได้ยกรี้พลโยธาเข้ามาตั้งเป็นปฐมที่นี่ก่อนเรียกกันในยุคนั้นว่า”เวียงเหล็ก” พอถึงจุลศักราช ๖๕๘(พ.ศ. ๑๘๓๙ เดือน วิสาขะ ขึ้น แปดค่ำ ตรงกับวันพฤหัสบดี ปีวอก ตรีศก พญามังรายมหาราชเป็นประธานพร้อมพญางำเมืองและพ่อขุนรามคำแหงได้ทรงสร้าง เจดีย์ตรงที่พระราชมณเฑียรหอประทับของพระองค์แล้วทรงขนานนามว่า วัดเชียงมั่น ให้เป็นพระอารามแห่งแรกของเมืองเชียงใหม่
